Analyzing Power Transmission Lines and Detecting Possible Adverse Weather Conditions in Advance

Energy transmission is one of the cornerstones of modern life. However, extreme weather conditions such as extreme winds and icing pose serious threats to energy transmission infrastructure. These types of weather events, which are becoming more frequent due to climate change, can cause significant disruptions to energy supply. Therefore, innovative solutions are essential to ensure the security of energy transmission infrastructure.

The atmos48 platform is being developed by ELTEMTEK Inc. as an R&D project arising from this need. It is designed to predict potential failures in energy transmission lines caused by extreme weather conditions and to enable proactive measures against these failures. This aims to provide TEİAŞ with timely information, minimizing disruptions to energy supply.

Our project partner has developed a specialized meteorological WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting) forecast model that takes into account the factors that most significantly impact energy transmission lines. The model is currently under development and aims to produce more accurate results going forward. This model calculates critical parameters such as wind speed, gust speed, ice load, and radial ice thickness in advance. The model is capable of forecasting up to 48 hours ahead and is updated every six hours to provide the most up-to-date forecast data.

Our atmos48 platform will analyze the risks that may arise from adverse weather conditions on power transmission lines based on the data obtained from the forecast studies. These analyses will identify critical points for each line and pole. It will also serve as a web platform for TEİAŞ, mapping and interpreting the forecast data.

atmos48;

  • Target-Oriented Analysis: Preliminary identification of critical points on power transmission lines and poles through detailed analysis and activating the relevant warning mechanisms.
  • Digital Mapping: Enables data to be monitored and interpreted on a map.
  • Query Capabilities: This web platform displays forecast data for the analyzed poles within a specified timeframe.

atmos48 will provide a critical warning system solution to protect the power transmission infrastructure against adverse weather conditions, ensuring the security and continuity of energy supply. This platform, which continues to be developed, aims to both alleviate the workload of technical teams and make a strategic contribution to our country's energy infrastructure.
